January Training


Still building overall conditioning. Now training includes some substantial VO2 max-type work once or twice a week, in addition to significant amounts of riding at or slightly below lactate threshold.

December Training

Still trying to build endurance and stamina through longer rides and plenty of riding around lactate threshold intensities. Every so often there were significant bouts of work done above threshold, but not as much as will happen later in the season when it is warmer and when racing is underway.

November Training


Coming off of a broken thumb, I had not ridden at all for 1 week and was only allowed on the trainer. I spent 2 weeks on the trainer, trying to make the most of my time by including some efforts that would keep my heart-rate up, some efforts that would produce large amounts of lactate, as well as some pedaling drills and time on the TT bike.

After 2 weeks on the trainer, I started moving out onto the road, quickly regaining any lost endurance, but definitely feeling a loss of overall strength and fitness relative to the end of the racing season.
